Francis Carter

Director of Operations and food systems engagement

Francis Carter is a food sovereignty and health equity professional with over 15 years of experience working across local food landscapes. Most notably, he worked on NYC's first commercial urban rooftop farm, developed healthy snacking vending machines for community health centers, and managed one of the city's largest multi-farm CSAs, which supplies fresh food to the places that need it most. His previous role as the East End Food Co-op's Project Manager focused on expanding upon over 40 years of providing healthy food access to Pittsburgh's East End. As CRAFT's Director of Operations, Francis oversees budgeting and grant management. As a designer, researcher, and educator, he firmly believes local food brings communities together by bridging the urban-rural divide.
