OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOVEREIGNTY: FORAGING, FERMENTING, AND FOOD PRESERVATION

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH, 1:15 pM EST

The strife created by a modern, global pandemic has shone a rare and bright light on the complex structures of dependency that lie at the core of our for-profit food system. As we mourn the incredible loss wrought by COVID-19, we must also strive to utilize this illumination to foster strength and resilience within our communities. Through co-sufficiency and inclusion, is it possible to break the cycles of reliance and prejudice that perpetuate an enduring inequity which proves catastrophic in times of crisis? This panel aims to pull from its speakers’ wealths of knowledge in a discussion about what sovereignty has and can look like in America; what models and projects are successfully working towards subverting a food system in which so many are oppressed; and in what ways the solutions lie in wisdoms and foodways that already exist.
